Health and Social Care

Health and Social Care

Health and Social Care at Bradford Forster Academy

Through teaching with excellence and modelling exemplary behaviour, the Health and Social Care department strives to challenge, motivate and inspire greatness in our students enabling them to become outstanding and ambitious for themselves. Health and Social Care focusses on developing holistic and caring skills that offer an insight into the depth and breadth of the subject. It offers students the opportunity to explore skills and abilities which are required in this dynamic career path. It provides a chance for students to broaden their horizons through access to a diverse range of concepts, challenging environments, and with a range of individuals.  Health and social care allows students to be successful across the course and supports them to realise their future ambitions.

In partnership with our strong Christian foundations and high-quality teaching and learning practice, Health and Social Care at Bradford Forster Academy encourages students to become:

  • Ambitious for themselves.
  • Academically successful.
  • Inquisitive and reflective learners.
  • Active and effective participants.
  • Confident communicators.
  • Emotionally resilient.
  • Inspiring to others.
  • Culturally and socially aware.

Health and Social Care is sequenced to allow students to build their knowledge and skills over time by:

  • Developing key skills that prove your aptitude in health and social care such as interpreting data to assess an individual’s health
  • Equipping students with the process that underpins effective ways of working in health and social care, such as designing a plan to improve an individual’s health and wellbeing
  • Promoting the correct attitudes that are considered most important in health and social care, including the care values that are vitally important in the sector, and the opportunity to practise applying them
  • Providing the knowledge that underpins effective use of skills, process and attitudes in the sector such as human growth and development, health and social care services, and factors affecting people’s health and wellbeing.

Health and Social Care provides students with opportunities for them to develop the habits and skills needed to succeed in life during and after BFA by:

  • Promoting the development of good student mental health and well-being by providing an understanding of how to properly express your emotions.
  • Ensuring equality of opportunity and develops an appreciation and respect for diversity in all its forms, whilst recognising and celebrating that which we have in common alongside that which makes us different
  • Developing cultural capital across a wide range of contexts and experiences by exposing students to real life health care workers.
  • Supporting spiritual, moral, social and cultural development in an inclusive subject.
  • Providing enrichment opportunities and the opportunities to work with outside organisations such as NextGen Nurses to develop their potential career paths.

In achieving this, we endeavour to support our students in breaking through limited horizons and becoming confident, effective, and employable citizens within the context of the local community of BD4, Bradford and beyond.
