ACADEMY UPDATE – The school will be open as normal on Monday 13th March.

Technology

Technology

Technology at Bradford Forster Academy

Through teaching with excellence and modelling exemplary behaviour, the Technology department strives to challenge, motivate and inspire greatness in our students enabling them to become outstanding and ambitious for themselves. Technology subjects are exciting, challenging, and rigorous. They develop pupils’ confidence, technical knowledge, creativity and practical skill. Our KS3 curriculum is carefully sequenced to build sufficient technical knowledge and skill for pupils to be able to manufacture high quality prototypes and to begin developing solutions to real-world problems. We aim to develop pupils who are resourceful, innovative, and enterprising and who can take creative risks.

In partnership with our strong Christian foundations and high-quality teaching and learning practice, Drama at Bradford Forster Academy encourages students to become:

  • Ambitious for themselves.
  • Academically successful.
  • Inquisitive and reflective learners.
  • Active and effective participants.
  • Confident communicators.
  • Emotionally resilient.
  • Inspiring to others.
  • Culturally and socially aware.

Technology subjects are sequenced to allow students to build their knowledge and skills over time by:

  • Providing a high-quality education in the subjects of Food Preparation and Nutrition, Textiles and Design and Technology, delivering valuable learning opportunities and experiences for all students, including those with SEND and specific talents
  • Developing levels of literacy using keywords, oracy through questioning and numeracy through practical applications in all technology subjects
  • Developing digital literacy by teaching pupils to use both subject specific hardware and software (CAD CAM) and generic software for the purposes of communication, research and presentation
  • Equipping students with the skills they need to function safely and responsibly in practical environments
  • Providing courses which offer pupils the opportunity to develop both their academic understanding of the designed and built world around them and which develop their own ability to design and manufacture products in a variety of specialist mediums.

Technology subjects provide students with opportunities for them to develop the habits and skills needed to succeed in life during and after BFA by:

  • Promoting the development of good student physical health by teaching the principles of nutrition and healthy eating and good mental health and well-being by providing opportunities to explore and develop diverse skillsets associated with designing and making
  • Ensuring equality of opportunity through the equal provision of resources for all pupils and develops an appreciation and respect for diversity in all its forms, whether in the form of different dietary choices or personal tastes
  • Developing cultural capital by extending pupils knowledge of the work a range of culturally significant creative professionals and styles of design
  • Exploring moral and social issues such as those associated with the environmental impact of design and manufacturing activities
  • Providing enrichment opportunities and the opportunities to work with outside organisations, such as Balfour Beatty or local post-16 providers where external expertise will enhance the quality of education on offer
  • Providing students with an insight into how life works in the wider world, whether it be food production or the practices of the creative industries

In achieving this, we endeavour to support our students in breaking through limited horizons and becoming confident, effective, and employable citizens within the context of the local community of BD4, Bradford and beyond.
