ACADEMY UPDATE – The school will be open as normal on Monday 13th March.

Drama

Drama

Drama at Bradford Forster Academy

Through teaching with excellence and modelling exemplary behaviour, the Drama department strives to challenge, motivate, and inspire greatness in our students enabling them to become outstanding and ambitious for themselves. Pupils are taught skills which empower them to work confidently and collaboratively with others to create, develop, perform, and evaluate drama that explores a range of stimuli, themes and play texts. We passionately believe that Drama plays a key role in the personal development of our students and that the skills learned can be applied across the curriculum and in students’ lives beyond school. We aim to develop the cultural capital of our students through practical explorations of contemporary ideas and issues in a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment.

In partnership with our strong Christian foundations and high-quality teaching and learning practice, Drama at Bradford Forster Academy encourages students to become:

  • Ambitious for themselves.
  • Academically successful.
  • Inquisitive and reflective learners.
  • Active and effective participants.
  • Confident communicators.
  • Emotionally resilient.
  • Inspiring to others.
  • Culturally and socially aware.

Drama is sequenced to allow students to build their knowledge and skills over time by:

  • Providing a high-quality education in the subject of drama, delivering valuable learning opportunities and experiences for all students, including those with SEND and specific talents.
  • Developing oracy and literacy skills which enable students to decode the meanings of texts and to articulate and express meaning, ideas emotions and viewpoints.
  • Developing IT and digital skills that enable  pupils to record and review performances using digital technology
  • Equipping students with the skills they need to work safely and responsibly in practical performance environments
  • Providing pupils with the opportunity to access a KS4 course which develops their performance skills; their ability to devise and analyse performances; and their understanding of how those skills and abilities can be applied in a vocational context.

Drama provides students with opportunities for them to develop the habits and skills needed to succeed in life during and after BFA by:

  • Promoting the development of good student physical and mental health and well-being. Students are taught how to support one another and how to show everyone and the space respect.
  • Developing pupils’ ability to work successfully in a team with individuals who have a range of personal characteristics and attributes.
  • Developing pupils’ cultural capital by exposing them to a range of drama genres, scripts and performances including opportunities to see live professional theatre performances
  • Encouraging spiritual development through imaginative and creative thinking
  • Supporting moral development through the exploration and consideration of the consequences of character’s actions
  • Providing enrichment opportunities through an after school drama club and the opportunity to perform to larger audiences in events such as the BDAT ‘Be There’ performance showcase.

In achieving this, we endeavour to support our students in breaking through limited horizons and becoming confident, effective, and employable citizens within the context of the local community of BD4, Bradford and beyond.
